Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Question about Official Video Releases

Hey everyone!
I just bought the "Crimson, White & Indigo" cd/dvd offering and while watching I wondered:
Did the Dead start videotaping every show with multiple cameras or was that a sporadic thing?
Videotaping every show would be expensive, but then they'd make sure a catch a killer show which could otherwise occur non-videotaped.
Basically I'm wondering about how large of a video collection the Dead company have.

Almost every outside show I saw in the late eighties and '90 was videotaped. If you bounce around the net you can find several that are not released.

If that link doesn't work, type in a goggle search of, 'grateful dead full shows'.

I'm still waiting on a release of "Sunshine Daydream", the film of the Veneta 72 show.

Here is a previous discussion about this:

I wish that they'd multi-cam videoed every show. I'd be happy with a black and white single cam from the soundboard area without zooms.

I showed the clip of the Great Dane eating the baby's ice cream (from the beginning of Jack Straw) for my co-workers a few weeks ago (from YouTube)

David Lemieux discussed details about GD audio and video releases during his Live Chat on uStream on January 17, 2012. The runtime is an hour. This show is archived and you can stream it at uStream.

Dave works for Rhino Records GDP as the Grateful Dead's archivist. He's been inside GD's (and Owsley's) vaults.

I hear that it's large, but I don't know the full extent of it. I know that there isn't much in the way of multi-camera pro-shot material before 1986. After that, most of the high-quality video I've seen is from summer tours at outdoor venues.
